The Role of Your Hormones

Your hormones play a vital role in regulating major bodily processes. When there is too high or too little of a hormone in your bloodstream, you begin to experience a hormonal imbalance that presents symptoms.

Your body may start to produce fewer vital hormones, sometimes starting as early as in your 20s. This makes it essential to work with a team of hormone specialists who have experience in hormone replacement therapy.

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are derived from natural ingredients such as soy, yams, and other plants. They are biologically identical to our own human hormones, therefore, allowing the body to accept them as if it created them.

We utilize these bioidentical hormones in hormone replacement therapy to treat common hormonal imbalances. Our physicians at PrimeHealthMD design and individualize your BHRT treatment based on the results of hormone laboratory tests, medical history, and a comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms.

Hormone Replacement Therapy FAQ

What are the hormone replacement therapy options?

Creams can be shipped directly to your home from a pharmacy. Injections may be administered in office on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Pellet insertion consists of an outpatient procedure performed at PrimeHealthMD lasting 30-45 minutes, where our practitioner inserts precise hormone dosages just underneath the skin. Afterward, future evaluations are performed to maintain your ultimate state of health.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Pellet Therapy?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is the therapeutic use of plant-based hormones that are identical on a molecular level to those created by the human body.

Hormone pellets are often the preferred delivery method and have proven benefits over other formulations such as creams, injections, or pills. Pellets provide a sustained, consistent release of hormones over time. This is considered an advantage over other formulations because their hormone release may fluctuate and can be inconsistent.

What happens during the in-office insertion?

During the in-office visit, which only takes a few minutes, patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common insertion site is the upper buttocks.

A small incision is made for pellet insertion, and once the hormone pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage. This method is entirely safe, and most patients do not experience any pain.

How Long Do Pellets Last?

Pellets last three to six months depending on gender, weight, absorption rates, and the amount of deficiency or surplus of hormones present within the patient at the time of insertion. Pellets are reinserted between two to four times per year to help keep hormones optimized and balanced.
