Genetic Testing
At PrimeHealthMD, we use a variety of evidence-based tests from trusted labs like Genova Diagnostics to gather detailed insight into your genetics and biochemistry. Some of the most commonly used tests in our practice include:
Your genetics don’t define your destiny, but they can offer powerful clues about how your body functions and what it needs to thrive. At PrimeHealthMD, we use advanced genetic testing to uncover predispositions, nutrient needs, detox limitations, and root causes of chronic symptoms so we can create a personalized treatment plan tailored just for you.
From methylation panels and NutrEval testing to Alzheimer’s risk assessments and toxin-related panels, our Functional Medicine team helps patients in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, and Kennesaw, Georgia, understand their unique biology and take actionable steps toward better health.
Why Genetic Testing Matters in Functional Medicine
While conventional medicine may only use genetic testing to screen for disease risk, our approach goes further. We use advanced, clinically relevant tests to assess how your genes interact with your environment, diet, stress, and lifestyle, and how those interactions affect your body today.
Genetic testing through PrimeHealthMD can help reveal:
- Methylation imbalances (e.g., MTHFR mutations)
- Detoxification challenges (glutathione, COMT, GST enzymes)
- Nutrient metabolism issues (folate, B12, vitamin D, omega-3s)
- Cognitive and neurodegenerative risk (APOE genotype, Alzheimer’s markers)
- Heavy metal or mold sensitivity
- Oxidative stress and inflammation patterns
- Gastrointestinal function and food intolerance risk
Rather than focusing on disease prediction alone, we focus on how your genes impact your current health and what you can do about it.
Common Genetic and Functional Tests We Use
At PrimeHealthMD, we use a variety of evidence-based tests from trusted labs like Genova Diagnostics to gather detailed insight into your genetics and biochemistry. Some of the most commonly used tests in our practice include:
Methylation Panel
Methylation is a biochemical process that helps regulate everything from detoxification and inflammation to mood, immune response, and hormone metabolism. Impaired methylation pathways, often due to gene variants like MTHFR, COMT, and BHMT, can lead to issues such as:
- Fatigue and brain fog
- Poor stress resilience
- Elevated homocysteine
- Hormonal imbalances
- Anxiety or depression
- Increased risk of cardiovascular disease or autoimmunity
Our methylation panel provides insight into how efficiently your body performs this essential process and how to support it with targeted nutrients and lifestyle interventions.
NutrEval® FMV
This comprehensive test assesses nutritional status at the cellular level, combining markers for vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, antioxidants, and more. It also evaluates organic acids and functional biomarkers related to:
- Mitochondrial function
- Oxidative stress
- Detoxification pathways
- Gut microbiome balance
- Neurotransmitter metabolism
This gives us a complete picture of your body’s nutrient needs, toxic load, and areas of dysfunction so we can treat deficiencies and imbalances more precisely.
Alzheimer’s Risk Genetic Testing
If you have a family history of Alzheimer’s or are experiencing early signs of cognitive decline, we may recommend the Alzheimer’s Assessment panel, which includes APOE genotyping and key metabolic and inflammatory markers associated with brain health. Early intervention is key, and this test gives us the opportunity to develop a prevention-focused plan for memory support and long-term cognitive wellness.
Heavy Metal and Mold Exposure
Certain individuals have genetic variations that impair detoxification, making them more vulnerable to toxic exposure. We offer testing to assess your toxic burden, especially for heavy metals like mercury, lead, or arsenic, as well as mycotoxins from mold. Combined with your genetic detox profile, we can create a personalized protocol to gently support safe, effective detoxification.
How PrimeHealthMD Uses Genetic Data to Create a Treatment Plan
We don’t just hand you a lab report; we interpret the data in the context of your entire health picture. Our Functional Medicine team builds a treatment plan based on:
- Your genetic strengths and weaknesses
- Your symptoms, history, and lifestyle
- Nutritional status and detox capacity
- Hormonal and inflammatory markers
- Environmental or toxin exposure
This allows us to support your body where it needs it most, whether that means optimizing methylation, repairing gut function, reducing inflammation, or supporting memory and brain health.
Personalized, Preventive, and Proactive
Genetic testing helps us move from reactive to proactive care. Instead of waiting for symptoms to worsen or for disease to take hold, we use your genetic blueprint to make smarter, more targeted decisions about your diet, supplements, and lifestyle.
Even if you feel “generally healthy,” your genes may be working overtime behind the scenes. With the right insight and support, we can help you stay ahead of future health issues and optimize your vitality now.
