Food Allergy and Sensitivity Testing medical service at Prime Health MD

Food Allergy and Sensitivity Testing

At PrimeHealthMD, we take a proactive approach to identifying food allergies and sensitivities, helping you uncover hidden triggers that may be impacting your well-being. Through advanced testing and personalized nutrition strategies, we empower you to make informed choices that support gut health, reduce inflammation, and restore balance to your body.

Many chronic symptoms, from digestive discomfort to unexplained fatigue, can be traced back to the foods we eat. Yet, food-related reactions often go unnoticed, making it difficult to connect what’s on your plate to how you feel.

At our practices in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, and Kennesaw, Georgia, we’re proud to offer comprehensive food and allergy testing to uncover what may be holding you back from optimal health. To learn more or schedule an appointment, please call (770) 800-3353.

Understanding Food Allergies & Sensitivities

Although the terms allergy and sensitivity are often used interchangeably, they are distinct conditions with different immune responses:

  • Food Allergies A true food allergy involves an immediate and potentially severe immune system reaction. When someone with a food allergy consumes or comes into contact with a specific allergen, their body produces an immunoglobulin E (IgE) response, which can result in symptoms ranging from hives and swelling to life-threatening anaphylaxis. Common food allergens include nuts, shellfish, eggs, wheat, and dairy.

  • Food Sensitivities (or Intolerances) Food sensitivities produce a more delayed immune or inflammatory response, often mediated by immunoglobulin G (IgG) or other pathways. Individuals with sensitivities may experience various symptoms hours or even days after consuming triggering foods, including bloating, migraines, joint pain, fatigue, and skin issues. Common sensitivities can involve gluten, dairy, soy, and certain additives.

While allergies can be serious and sometimes life-threatening, sensitivities often go undetected for years—leading to chronic symptoms and contributing to deeper health complications. Accurate testing allows you to clearly identify which foods are causing distress, so you can avoid or minimize exposure and reclaim control over your health

Why Test for Food Allergies & Sensitivities?

  • Pinpoint Sources of Chronic Inflammation Ongoing inflammation in the gut can pave the way for more significant health issues, from autoimmune conditions to metabolic disorders. By uncovering problematic foods, you reduce strain on the immune system and promote proper digestion.
  • Support Gut Health An irritated gut struggles to absorb nutrients, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies and imbalances. Eliminating trigger foods allows the gut lining to heal, boosting microbial diversity and fortifying your digestive environment.
  • Enhance Energy and Vitality Constant low-grade inflammation often manifests as fatigue, brain fog, or a general sense of malaise. Removing the foods that aggravate your system can lead to more consistent energy levels and sharpen mental clarity.
  • Prevent Long-Term Health Complications Untreated food sensitivities can aggravate chronic conditions such as autoimmune disorders, migraine headaches, eczema, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Individualized Nutrition Not everyone responds to food the same way. Targeted testing puts you in control, tailoring your nutritional strategy and empowering you to feel your best.

Our Approach to Food Allergy & Sensitivity Testing

At PrimeHealthMD, we use comprehensive testing methodologies to provide a clear, detailed view of your body’s immune responses to common allergens. Our advanced testing includes:

  • IgE Blood Testing: Identifies true allergies, highlighting immediate hypersensitivity responses.
  • IgG & IgA Antibody Panels: Detect delayed or hidden sensitivities that may contribute to chronic symptoms.
  • Lifestyle & Nutrition Evaluation: We take time to discuss your dietary habits, personal preferences, and potential exposures to allergens or sensitivities within your daily environment.

What to Expect During Testing & Follow-Up

  • Initial Consultation During your first visit, you’ll meet with a PrimeHealthMD provider who will evaluate your personal and family health history, existing symptoms, and dietary routines. We’ll determine the most appropriate tests to uncover hidden triggers.
  • Laboratory Testing Whether through a blood draw or specialty test kit, our reliable and scientifically validated testing methods capture accurate data about your body’s immune responses to dozens of commonly reactive foods.
  • Results & Personalized Plan Once we receive your results, our functional medicine specialists will interpret the findings within the scope of your medical history. You’ll receive a clear, step-by-step nutrition plan detailing which foods to avoid, which to moderate, and how to reintroduce certain items when appropriate.
